A Solution To Prevent Climate Change In Your Own Little Way
faq - bkr energy

BKR Energy was established in 2016 by PhD fellow Nima Alibabaei focused on the control and automation of a Smart Hybrid HVAC System. The first of its kind on the market, BKR Energy is dedicated to achieving net-zero emissions and strengthening electrification in our future. At its core, BKR Energy is an innovative technology company that provides sustainable heating solutions for homes and commercial spaces. We have developed a new and cost-effective cloud-based solution that optimizes the heating of your space, by taking into consideration external environmental and electrical factors. BKR Energy results in an advanced hybrid system that allows owners to maximize their energy savings, while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

The Smart Hybrid HVAC System is comprised of two components: a thermostat that can control both a traditional furnace along with a modern air-source heat pump (sold separately) and a cloud-based computer software that prompts changes to the way your space is heated based on external environmental and electrical factors.

The custom-built thermostat is capable of monitoring external factors and controlling the way your home is heated. It relies on our proprietary cloud-based technology and algorithms that calculate the most cost-efficient way to heat your space and reduce the overall emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) into the environment.

On top of this, we have developed a Smart Mobile App that allows each user to better understand the Smart Hybrid HVAC System’s performance and monitor the monthly, and even daily, cost-savings.

BKR Energy first began in Ontario, Canada. Our current focus is in this province, as we partner with local energy providers and spearhead large residential projects, growing exponentially over the last few years, and expanding into Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, and London. As projects take flight, we have seen interest from other provinces, as well as some areas in the United States, and we are currently finalizing programs with these other areas. In the future, our goal is to reach all countries in North America, and we hope to display these results to residents overseas as well.

Currently, we can consider two separate costs to the Smart Hybrid HVAC System: the cost for the thermostat (device) and the cost for the cloud-based technology (software).

The smart thermostat cost is a one-time fee of $160 (CAD). The software cost is an annual fee of $120 (CAD).

There are other costs to consider depending on the infrastructure of your home or commercial space, but in general terms, most customers require the purchase and installation of an air-source heat pump (sold separately). Alternatively, BKR can provide a package for customers to consider as well – this way, there is no upfront costs for the thermostat and no annual fee for cloud services.

While savings differ for every customer, on average, you can expect to save approximately $65(CAD) on hydro and energy costs per year.
